About Us

Ruia, ruia, tahia, tahia,
Kia hemo te kākoakoa,
Kia herea mai i te kawau korokī.
Kia tātaki mai i roto i te pūkorokoro,
whaikoro,
Te kūaka, he kūaka mārangaranga,
Tahi manu i tau ki te tāhuna, tau atu, tau
atu, tau atu!

Scatter, scatter, sweep on, sweep on,
Let us not be plundered by our foe,
The rope has been stretched out and fastened,
let us rejoice.
Moving along the rope,
The godwits have risen and flown,
One has landed, to the beach,
the others follow!

Ko Kohuroa te Maunga
Ko Rehua rāua ko Whitirea ngā Moana
Ko Te Hiku o Te Ika me Waiora ngā Marae
Ko Ngāti Kuri te Iwi

Ngāti Kuri are descended from the original inhabitants, the founding peoples of the northernmost peninsula of Aotearoa, in Te Hiku O Te Ika. Ngāti Kuri’s contemporary tribal area covers approximately one million square kilometres in the Far North (Te Hiku o Te Ika) and extends from Hukatere on the west coast across to Maunga Tohoraha (Mt Camel) on the east coast and north to Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga) and Manawatāwhi (Three Kings Islands) and Rangitāhua (Kermadec Islands).

Today we have a strong core of kaumātua and kuia living in our rohe, and many of our whānau are all over Aotearoa and the world. In part, this centre represents an effort to virtually gather our whānau home and to provide a space where they and the world can see our strategic vision in action.

Our centre and kaupapa is aligned with the Ngāti Kuri Trust Boards strategic directions and notably Te Ara Whānui Strategic Flight Path.

Consultation remains ongoing to develop the full extent to which the centre will operate and this will continue to evolve over the next 12 months with the emergence of new projects within the iwi.

We thank Te Puni Kōkiri and Manaaki Whenua for the support and commitment to our kaupapa, and the WAI262 Taumata as our platform for extension and growth.
